A View From Behind the Typewriter

juz want to say, HI!! have a great day!!

It seems since all I ever talk about is writing, it has given the assumption that writing is all I do. Actually, I have a day job--software developer--and I have two small kids who stay home with me while I do it. Things stay pretty hectic here.
Which is why I say that anyone can write. Most people will say they haven't got time. I get lots of emails asking how to find time to write. I wish I had a magic word that would add an extra two hours to every day, unaccountable to anyone. All I can say is that, if you want to write, you'll find time. It doesn't have to be huge chunks of time. Ten minutes out of your lunchbreak is a start. When you're sitting in a waiting room, or early for a meeting, or waiting for a class, those are the "cracks" in your day. More time falls through those cracks than most of us realize.
What if you could take those random minutes and put them in a bottle? At the end of the day, how much time do you think you'd have? Half an hour? An hour? More? What about at the end of a week? In the cracks of yesterday, I managed to finish that intense scene that was slowing me down, and the scene after it.
The bad news is that you can't put your lost moments in a bottle, and use them all later in one big chunk. The good news is that you can use them as they happen instead, and the end result is about the same. You just need to have your materials with you when the time is there. For suggestions on how to do that, see my post "Taking Your Show on the Road."
And for now, well, my lunch break is about over. Back to work.
